Return to Me
In this painting a maiden has just bid farewell to her beloved, who boarded a ship. Before he left, he gave her some flowers as a token of his affection. The maiden, heartbroken sits by the water thinking of him. Although her heart feels fractured, a piece of her separated from herself, she is still happy to have loved so deeply and to miss someone that much. She waits for him to return to her.
Inspired by the song “My Lover’s Gone” by Dido.
Painted in 2004 using oils on 18x24 inch canvas board of model Mallory.
